My greatest achievement with the company would be setting various ads that then appeared in a variety of magazines potentially being seen by hundreds of people.
When applying for full-time placements, I found that most employers look for the experience you have in the workplace. With me coming straight out of sixth form, I had no significant experience. By doing an apprenticeship, I will have gained experience to use in later ventures.
An apprenticeship means a first step into the real working world. It gives us the opportunity to work, learn and earn whilst not having extreme pressure put on you.
Before walking into the apprenticeship, my skills were limited, my confidence was low, and I found myself a little awkward when it came to communication. However, I now feel different; I am able to carry out certain tasks I never thought I would be doing, and I'm a more confident speaker.
All skills that I had in the first place have been topped all over. I have become someone who has a better understanding of technology; I can carry out tasks that previously I would've needed guidance on. I am planning time better and understand what needs to be done before I move on.
Having met new people, all from different backgrounds. It's also refreshing venturing out into London. The best thing about being in the workplace with these people is the fact that they have so much experience and knowledge.
I felt that going to university would have meant been stuck in the same position as I was before, without real work experience. Also, I was unaware of what I wanted to do as a career. By doing an apprenticeship, I received professional help by DSS to find the right placement where my skills would be put to good use.
